About This Work

Composer:  Kevin Cope

Description: "Beech" was written for tenor Malcolm Cooper and was premiered on November 6, 2011. The text was written by poet Hannah Eagleson specifically for this project. "Beech" portrays the change of the seasons from the perspective of a single tree. The piece begins with a lively spring and works slowly through the other seasons until finally ending on winter. Though brittle and lonely, winter is able to harken back to the spring and remind us that for every winter there is an impending spring where life will once again flow into the world.
