About This Work

Composer:  Frank Wallace

Description: I first met Edel Muñoz at the 2011 St. Joseph Guitar Festival – he was back to do his “winner’s concert”, but I missed it. Fortunately, we met again at Classical Minds in Houston in June 2012 at which point we got to hear each others’ concerts. Edel is one of the most suave and subtle but powerful players I have ever heard. I was thrilled that he asked me to write a piece for him.

I had developed some techniques of generating ideas over the past few years that worked extremely well, but for some reason I tossed those ideas out the door and just wrote from pure inspiration. This is the result, a piece making use of the octatonic scale, my first use of the “diminshed” scale in a piece that alternates between dramatic chordal outbursts and flowing bass melodies. Overall Black Falcon is in two sections: Larghissimo in 4/2 and Allegro in 12/8.

Ignacio Fleta y Hijos ex Eliot Fisk-Frank Wallace (03:23)
I am very pleased and proud to offer for sale this incredible example of the work of la Casa de Fleta. This guitar was made in 1986 for world famous virtuoso Eliot Fisk and has lived with him since. He has used this guitar for recordings and concert appearances although for me the most memorable time was the first day I met him. A good friend and client of mine was at the time a student of Eliot's. We went to his home so I could meet him and to show him some of my guitars. While he was playing, his wife Zaira went into labor. This was not something any of us had expected to happen that day. Although I had just met them, it was as if I was part of the family, we all went to the hospital and their beautiful daughter Raquel made her appearance. Eliot brought along his favorite guitar, this magnificent Fleta. I will never forget the sight (or sounds) of him, in hospital scrubs, playing Bach for his daughter. This guitar is the most powerful and even Fleta I have yet to encounter. The condition is near mint, with some playing wear, no cracks or repairs. The guitar plays very easily and will satisfy the most discriminating player and collector. A signed copy of Eliot's cds Bell Italia and Guitar Fantasies (recorded with this guitar) is included.
