About Composer/Arranger

Heather McKay

Heather McKay is a Berklee College of Music graduate with a concentration in Composition and Arranging. At Berklee, she attended a variety of workshops with nationally known artists including Dizzy Gillespie and John Scofield. After returning home to DC, she became a freelance guitar teacher and performer. A stylistically well rounded musician, Heather has mastered musical styles which include Latin jazz, Persian, Funk, Rhythm & Blues, Contemporary/Fusion Jazz and Gospel. Heather combined her playing experience with scholastic knowledge in her teacher methods. She recognized the need for a well laid out music theory book with exercises to test the students understanding of what they just learned. The results became a book with a fully comprehensive approach to learning music theory for all musical levels and interest. She has had much success with the book with many students going on to attend schools such as Julliard and Berklee. As a result of mastering “Making it Thru the Gig” they were placed in senior level theory classes.
