Composer: James Piorkowski
Description: One Sunday morning in Venice, Italy, my wife, Sue and I were walking along the canals, and the church bells started ringing, not from one church, but from many, and the overlapping sound was mesmerizing. I hurried back to our apartment, identified some carillon pitch patterns and started composing. In wanting to paint a broader musical portrait of this magical city, I also tried to capture the pigeons in Piazza San Marco and included a small tribute to the Venetian master, Antonio Vivaldi, at least in spirit. After returning home to Buffalo, NY, I secretly finished "One Morning in Venice" in time to learn it and play it for Sue on her birthday. - James Piorkowski
"One Morning in Venice is probably the best piece written ever by James Piorkowski. He is a genius to me. I had the chance to listen to many of Jim's compositionsitions including his chamber music and this very one is, to my opinion, the most narrative, colorful and light in its best meaning of all. A kind of theatrical music filled with clever and smart references throughout the piece, plus emotion on top of it. Actually, what else should music be? So just enjoy it. E Viva Italia!" - Roland Dyens
