" I think he is the greatest composer of Brazilian music to come from the United States" -Guinga
Through his percussionist father, Benji started playing Dumbek at age 6 in which he demonstrated a highly sophisticated sense of rhythmic creativity. He began playing guitar professionally at the age of 15. He has traveled and played in Rio, Sao Paulo, and the Brazilian Northeast(Recife, Olinda, and Fortaleza). Benji Has received accolades for his intricate guitar compositions and in particular is admired by Guinga, the most recognized composer post-Jobim."

I recently discovered the music of Benji Kaplan and cant wait to see more. To be perfectly honest I did not know who he was prior to getting this piece and now I am impressed with him and his composing. Recently a student of mine was looking for a good classical/jazz hybrid piece for a show he was getting ready to play and this piece fit the bill perfectly. Not only did the student love learning this (because it wasn't renaissance music) but the audience seemed to truly enjoy listening to it. I hope in the coming months there will be other works by him.
