The second “Women of the Guitar” festival and symposium will showcase a number of internationally renowned female guitarists. The festival will occur over two weekends in February-March 2015. Eight artists will present two roundtables, four concerts, two scholarly presentations, and eight total masterclasses. Building on the momentum of the April 2014 “Women of the Guitar” Festival and competition, we have endeavored to maintain the integrity of the festival’s mission statement:
“To assemble prominent guitarist-teachers within a program designed to highlight their diverse cultural and pedagogical backgrounds while striving to bring the highest level of artistry and research that embraces the long tradition of female performers. With a larger vision being realized by providing a relevant and comprehensive event for people who are interested in guitar, its history and literature, and the continuing evolution of music education.”
Seconda Prattica is pleased to announce the newest addition to the format: an open call for proposals for presentation during the February and March “Women of the Guitar” festivals. Only one proposal will be accepted for each weekend. Presentations will focus on the artistic contributions, performance careers or other topics related to a female artist. The selected submission will receive a $300 USD honorarium and present their research at the event.
This years roster will be available on the festival’s website late December 2014 and submisions deadlines will be explained further on the website.
